James Bertelsen

I have struggled with mental illness for more than twenty years.  My first mental crash occurred during my junior year of High School. Early experiences of abuse, plus wrongfully prescribed medications, tipped the balance. Over the years I had many psychotic crises and hospitalizations. Efforts were made by counselors, therapists, psychologists and a psychiatrist to find the right diagnosis and correct treatment plan.

It has been a hellish roller coaster ride, but with God’s help and with the caring support of friends and family,Jefferson Center for Mental Health which provides supportive services for me, and the support and caring of Pastor Paul and Our Savior’s family, along with our Together Colorado Community Organizing Group, OSCOM, I have been able to cope, to maintain hope, and to keep going through the challenges.
