Faith Leaders & DREAMers Protest Against Rep. Coffman's Vote to Defund Deferred Action

What:  Faith leaders and DREAMers with Together Colorado are protesting against Rep. Mike Coffman's vote to defund Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) at the Federal Courthouse building at 11 a.m. today, Friday, June 7, 2013.

Why:  There is huge support for the DREAM Act and DREAMers in Coffman's District.  This is a main stream position and this vote is a clear vote against the values of most families in Aurora. "This vote is deeply troubling.  Does it mean that he is backing away from even supporting DREAMers in an immigration bill?" said Father Steve Adams, Together Colorado leader and Priest of St. Pius Catholic Church in Aurora.

"The vote we saw Wednesday night from Congressman Coffman is something we would expect from former Congressman Tom Tancredo. Tancredo's position on immigration took his party and our state in the wrong direction for decades. We expect better from Congressman Coffman."  said Ana Calderon,  a DREAMer leader with Together Colorado.

When: June 7, 2013 at 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Spokesperson availability at 10:30 a.m. for interviews in English or Spanish.

Where: Outside Federal Courthouse at 18th & Stout St, downtown Denver.

Who:  DREAMers, clergy, faith leaders, and allies protesting against Rep. Coffman's vote.

Visuals: More than 50 DREAMers and faith leaders carrying signs; youth/DREAMers wearing chains to demonstrate losing their freedom, being bound by the chains of being undocumented and not able to realize their full potential and reach their dreams.
