Clergy, DREAMers, and Community Leaders Begin to Fast for Families: A Call for Immigration Reform and Citizenship for 11 million Aspiring Americans
Faith Communities Hold “Fast4Families”Actions Across the Country and Join National Effort in DC

What: Today, Sunday, Dec. 1, 2013, at 2:30 p.m. at St. Pius X, Coloradans are launching Fast for Families in Colorado with a vigil. As a part of the national “Fast4Families” campaign that launched last month, Together Colorado's faith communities are fasting, in an effort to both demonstrate their commitment to ending family separations and further remind Congress of the moral imperative to pass reform with a pathway to citizenship this year.

Why: The ongoing failure of Congress to act on immigration reform is both a human and moral crisis, and PICO National Network’s faith communities are mobilizing like never before. Fasting has been part of religious traditions for thousands of years as a form of purification, re-focusing spiritually, and finding new vision. It is also part of the prophetic tradition to give public witness to injustice and speak truth to power. From the Hebrew prophets to leaders such as Martin Luther King, Gandhi and Cesar Chavez, fasting has empowered people to obtain justice.

Every day Congress delays a vote, 1,100 aspiring Americans are deported and ripped apart from their families because of our profoundly immoral immigration system

Where: St. Pius X Catholic Church, 13670 E. 13th Place, Aurora.

When: Sunday, Dec. 1, 2013 @ 2:30 (and will continue through Dec. 11)

Who: More than 50 community leaders, Together Colorado clergy leaders, and DREAMers

Sound: There will be chants, testimonies, and prayers

Visuals: Marching, chants, testimonies, American flags, and posters Fast for Families and for citizenship for 11 million aspiring Americans.
