The Presence of God ...and us

God's heart was the first to break at the scene of this morning's Aurora killings. With God we react and respond. In that spirit and in the spirit of Job who after all analysis, stood and lived speechless in the power and presence of God before all our humanness, so we find our confused way between God’s strength and loving presence and the craziness of once again another human devastation.

While many faith communities will have their doors open this evening for a prayer vigil, the Aurora Community of Faith is gathering a prayer vigil this evening at 7:00 p.m. at the Kaiser Permanente Building at 14701 E. Exposition Ave. To stand in that crowd speaks volumes of shared grief and community strength in this hurting time. Our individual and faith community prayers channel God’ loving, hurting, listening presence while God’s grace companions those dying, hurting, healing and finding courage to keep going.

“The Lord is the stronghold/refuge of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” Ps. 27:1b

Even though we walk through death’s deep darkness, God walks with us, sharing our deep hurt and our right steps from here… - taken from Ps 23: 4
