Continuing the Fight for Our Beautiful Tomorrow – Fair Tax Colorado Doesn’t Make the 2020 Ballot

Even under the best circumstances, qualifying for the Colorado ballot is a difficult task, and a lack of big funders makes it that much harder given today’s emphasis on paid signature gathering. Add a global pandemic and well-funded opponents, and an already-difficult task proves to be even more challenging.

Broad support for Initiative #271 and a vast volunteer network grew and fueled our momentum, but unfortunately, not enough to overcome this year’s extraordinary obstacles. It’s with great sadness we announce that Fair Tax Colorado, Initiative #271 will not be on the 2020 ballot.

While we didn’t make it this year, we will continue this fight because we know that standing up for all of us and organizing for an equitable tax code is the right path, especially given our new realities.

We’re in this together. No matter our race, religion, immigration or economic status, we all want similar things for our families and loved ones: safety, health, a roof over our heads, the opportunity to provide a bright future for our children, or the ability to retire in dignity.

Can you imagine what our neighborhoods and schools would look like if we had all the resources our communities deserve? While our schools and neighborhoods are at their limits, we see corporations and CEOs with unimaginable wealth, paying less than their fair share in taxes because of our state’s unfair and racist tax code.

Our state’s strength is grounded in our ability to work together so all Coloradans can live a good life. We look forward to continuing the fight for fairness in the months and years to come.

Thank you,
The Team at Together Colorado
