On February 12, 2019, community members from Grand Junction joined with Together Colorado’s Western Slope Faith Leaders Table to hold an event in support of the Grand Junction Community Center Campaign – Measure 2C.
“There are opportunities for some, but not all. I believe a community center would be able to provide access to all kids in this valley…Sometimes one love of an activity can change the course of a child’s life. I know this as a mother of a son who struggles with mental health issues but found love in climbing.
NPR did a study about suicide rates in Grand Junction, Pueblo, and Colorado Springs. One big factor they cited [for suicide rates in Grand Junction] is that Grand Junction doesn’t have a recreation center.”
Patti Virden, member of Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church
Sponsoring congregations included: Canyon View Vineyard Church, First Congregational Church, Koinonia, Redlands United Methodist Church, Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, The Episcopal Church of the Nativity, Unitarian Universalist Church of the Grand Valley.
